The Ladder

Now and then you wrangle and squabble with failure
Engaging each other into a fierce brawl
You are so bitter with failure as you struggle
You are trying hard to reach the very top
You are aiming to be where gold and honor abound
Where your most desired dreams lie waiting
Until when with much effort you reach the top
And with much relief you look down, victorious

You see that down there is an innocent ladder
The ladder that you climbed to the top
You look closely and discover the truth
That the steps are in fact made of failure
All those falls and fails are in that ladder
You realize that like the only bridge across a river
And like the only door to a treasure palace
The guiltless ladder was your only way to the top
