The Double Edged Future

The optimist stretches his eyes and sees the invisible future
And says, "It is bright, promising and so beautiful a future!"
His heart is eagerly looking forward to its approach
That it may speedily reach the present moment and find him
The future, in its treasure box, holds delicious opportunities
Such fortunes the optimist can't wait to lay his hands on
With the help of the ever indispensable past
That in his eyes is full of most cherished times
The optimist predicts and foresees the wonderful future
And draws sound plans that prepare him to welcome
The presents that the happy future is bringing him

The pessimist stretches his eyes and sees the unknown future
And says, "It is bleak, gloomy and so dark a future!"
His hopeless heart is dreading that inevitable moment
When the invincible and onerous future arrives
The future, in its pit of hell, holds horrible calamities
That the pessimist helplessly braces to face
The past, as the eyes of the pessimist always sees it
Is a pit of dark nightmares that ceaselessly assail his peace
In his eyes the pessimist therefore envisages a future of doom
Dreading the worst, the pessimist has no time for sound plans
Head buried in the sand the pessimist awaits the blows to start
